Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Saltify a powder, instead of a tablet?
By having a powder, you are able to premix into your normal water bottles and have it as part of your ongoing hydration, no need to think about it! It also makes it super easy to stack with other fuelling components like carbs.
And the sachet the powder comes in is small and waterproof, which also makes it easy to bring with you any time and make any water work for you!
But isn't salt supposed to be bad for you?
Salt has historically been linked to hypertension due to older studies, but recent research presents a more nuanced picture. The largest salt study in the world (Intersalt, involving over 20,000 participants) found that the incidence of cardiovascular issues was lowest between of 4-6 grams of sodium per day, compared to the commonly recommended 2.5 grams per day.
Maintaining a balanced salt intake is crucial for bodily function, as both too little and too much can impact your health. Our electrolyte product complements your daily intake by providing essential minerals to support hydration and optimal body function.
Please note that this product is not intended to replace your electrolyte intake but rather to complement it. If you have hypertension or cardiac issues, it's best to consult with a healthcare professional to tailor your sodium intake according to your unique dietary and health needs.
As temperatures rise, the body produces more sweat to cool down, making it crucial to replenish core electrolytes to prevent systemic issues.
While it might seem natural to just drink plain water, this approach is typically only adequate for low hydration needs. During intense workouts or high temperatures, drinking only water can lead to sodium dilution in the bloodstream.
Athletes can lose between 1 and 4 liters or more of sweat per hour of exercise, necessitating adequate replenishment.
The 1 gram of sodium in Saltify is calibrated to replace the majority of sodium lost during sweating. However, for those who sweat heavily or are high-performance athletes, it's advisable to test your sweat rate and concentration, then adjust your intake as needed.
How do I know how much sweat i lose?
Sweat volume and composition testing are important tools for understanding your body's response to exercise. Volume testing measures how much sweat you produce, while composition testing analyzes the electrolytes, like sodium, in your sweat. Sodium replacement needs vary based on factors like exercise intensity and environmental conditions. You don't always need to replace all the sodium lost, but it's crucial to monitor and adjust as needed to maintain proper electrolyte balance.
To measure your sweat rate:
- Weigh yourself before a workout of known length and intensity.
- Track the amount of fluid you consume during the workout.
- After the workout, dry off and weigh yourself again. Add the amount of fluid consumed during the workout to this measurement. This will tell you your sweat rate for that specific workout. You can adjust this value to find your hourly rate.

To measure sweat composition, specialized equipment is required, which can be obtained from specific suppliers. However, this isn't always necessary unless you want to fine-tune your consumption precisely. Start with one sachet per water bottle and adjust up or down based on how you feel.
